Summary: Diving in Dahab

• Conditions are ideal for learning to dive, continuing education and recreational diving for qualified divers.
• Diving is predominantly shore-based, accessible by 4 wheel drive or Bedouin pick-up trucks (or even camel)
• Diving Camel Safaris are a speciality in Dahab and an experience not to be missed. Strap your dive gear onto the side of your camel, hop on board and head to Ras Abu Galum to find some of Sinai’s most colourful reefs.
• Alternatively, you can join a local boat safari to the remote untouched areas south of Dahab. Boat diving in Dahab makes for uncrowded diving on the southern virgin reefs of Gabr El Bint famous for its Gorgonian forests, big walls and schools of Reef fish.
• The sites combine coral gardens, arches, canyons and caves, with a huge diversity of reef fish and invertebrates, as well as Turtles, Rays, Moray eels, Octopus, and larger fish including Napoleon wrasse, Barracuda, small sharks and Dolphins.

Diving Highlights

The Blue Hole
A very pleasant site if dived safely. A hole in the reef table approximately 50 metres across plunges downward to over 180 metres - effectively bottomless for recreational divers. At 60 metres an archway breaks through the reef to the sea. It is to be stressed that Mixed Gas diving is the ONLY safe way to reach these depths. The greatest attraction of the Blue Hole lies on the rich sloping reef outside, where a shallow lip over the reef table at 6 metres leads to the outer reef. The reef slope is rich in hard corals, particularly the section to the south of the lagoon. Triggerfish, Jacks, Unicorns, Parrotfish, Angel fish, Grouper and Surgeonfish are all part of the variety of Fish life on the outer reef.

The Canyon
This site takes its name from a long and very beautiful cavern under the seabed and is an essential dive for all fanatics of caves and cavern diving.
