Taba Heights is passionate about the environment, whether it be on land or under the water. 

The resort has its own recycling centre that sorts all of the waste from the hotels and outlets. Some is recycled in house - for example, plastic bottle tops are melted down and then pressed into coat hangers for the laundry; while the remaining waste is either donated to Bedouin communities or sold to recycling giants in Cairo.

Furthermore, any books or magazines that guests leave behind at their hotels or other outlets within the resort are sold and all proceeds go back to the recycling center. 

Each quarter a clean-up campaign is undertaken, with volunteers from the resort collecting rubbish from outside the resort in a huge effort to keep the Sinai clean.  Orascom sponsors these events and encourages and educates volunteers. 

Hotels also take initiatives to support the environment and water consumption such as Marriott’s planting of 2,000 trees, which reduced their water consumption to 19%.

Taba Heights' 18-hole championship golf course has been specially designed to absorb salt water, which saves a lot of water consumption.

In keeping with Taba Heights quest to raise awareness of the environment and safeguard the local coral reef, an ongoing children’s painting competition has been organized which takes place every Friday night in the uptown area of Taba Heights during the weekly street festival.  This serves as a friendly way to teach children about the marine environment.  All hotels in the destination support the competition along with the 5-star dive centre, Waterworld.

A recent bi-annual activity has been launched in Taba Heights urging guests and hotel staff to give back to the community.  In collaboration with the Egyptian Red Cross, blood donations are being conducted twice a year and are open to any volunteers.  In the first round of donations, we had 223 participating volunteers.
